Creative expression through drama and theater has significant benefits for children, and it is something we seek to implement at Morningside Montessori Elementary: selfconfidence, imagination, teamwork and cooperation. Communication skills and emotional expression are some of the qualities that are cultivated and promoted via drama and theater.
It’s also so much fun! The children play theatrical games, create their own narrative and express themselves through this beautiful and essential art form. Our experienced drama teacher Ioanna Kordatou will be teaching the lessons.

MONDAY 3:45-4:45

The survival club for kids aged 6-12 is designed to teach children the skills necessary to survive in nature. The club offers various activities such as learning about natural habitats, orientation, fire building, shelter construction, and first aid for kids. By participating in these activities, children learn how to be self-reliant, work as a team, and develop problem-solving skills. The club also fosters an appreciation for nature and teaches children how to respect and preserve the environment. Our new staff member Maria Eliadou Mormori, a lifelong scout, will be teaching the lessons.

TUESDAY 3:45-4:45

Get ready for an exciting exploration as we delve into a wide array of film genres, including fiction, documentary, animation, and other artistic expressions like photography and soundtracks. Children will learn the fundamentals of film direction, storytelling, creating engaging plots, developing characters, capturing raw footage, various filming techniques, and the art of editing. Our club aims to ignite their creativity and imagination by immersing them in captivating fictional tales, eye-opening documentaries, and enchanting animations. Join us as we embark on a journey of cinematic discovery, unleashing their creativity and passion for filmmaking. Children will need to have their own filming equipment that will be used exclusive during the time of the club (i.e. camera, tablet or phone). This club is more suitable for ages 9-12 years old.

TUESDAY 3:45-4:45

Our talented art teacher, Mr Stefanos Karampampas, a well known artist, will expand his art work with the children in the afternoons. He has an incredible knack for turning everyday objects and materials into extraordinary art pieces. His boundless creativity ensures that each art session is filled with innovative ideas and exciting projects. From painting to sculpting, collage-making to mixed media, Mr. Karampampas encourages children to think outside the box and explore various art forms. Through his guidance, children will have the opportunity to nurture their creativity, broaden their imagination, and tap into their unique artistic talents.

WEDNESDAY 3:45-4:45

During the class there are group and individual exercises and games that aim at strengthening the body, enhancing balance and flexibility. Children learn the capoeira moves and technique, and use them in a form of ‘dialogue’ with the help of the music. Music plays an essential role in capoeira: percussion and singing are used extensively to set the rhythm of the moves. Maria Aloneftou, who has been running Morningside’s Capoeira club for six years with great success. She has been training and teaching Capoeira to children in Cyprus with the team Apeiara.

The benefits of incorporating chess into a child's education are truly remarkable and cannot be overstated. Chess serves as a catalyst for brain growth, stimulating and exercising both sides of the brain simultaneously. Beyond its reputation as a game, chess is known to ignite creativity and foster the development of problem-solving skills. Under the guidance of our trusted chess teacher, Mark Bryan, an experienced chess trainer and player, children will delve into the intricate world of chess.

Join our exciting afternoon club for children, where the wonders of science and the animal kingdom come to life! Young scientists will conduct hands-on experiments like volcano eruptions, chemical reactions, slime-making, and blasting rockets, fostering curiosity, teamwork, and collaboration. They will ask questions, make predictions, and draw conclusions, while presenting their findings to peers. In our Zoological Exploration sessions, students engage in interactive sessions to learn about different animal species, their habitats,and unique characteristics. They have close encounters with reptiles, insects, and mammals,learning about animal conservation and ways to protect wildlife. Our new teacher Kemal Sozuoz will be guiding the children through the world of science. Come and join us as we nspire young minds with fun science and zoological exploration!

If your child would like to start learning English in a fun, hands-on Montessori way, then these lessons are for you! Our tailor-made lessons are designed for curious minds aged 5-9 years old, offering an engaging and interactive learning experience for non-native English speakers. We highly recommend this group for children who are not native speakers in English and would like to register at Morningside Montessori as full-time students. This club is led by the dynamic and experienced Ms. Chiara Cates, an accomplished Montessorian and our new Head of School.
